First off, sorry for the late post!! It's so much fun to have family come visit, and has taken more time than I thought to capture the meaning and experiences in a post! Here goes!
~Week 1~
October 2nd: Nana and G have made it to Edinburgh! They are now world travelers!
Not documented are the great videos from the first "look" in a couple months! Hopefully they will work if you click on
Instagram, (don't forget to swipe over for the next 2), if not you can go to my instagram posts and find the videos loaded there! Asher had the day off of preschool (that's why he is in all the photos)! Kylie and Norah went to school and after we picked them up, we went to show off the beautiful Holyrood Park.
October 3rd: Ed is already looking the part of a Scot!
We visited Greyfriar's Kirk and met a lovely gentlemen that gave us a ton of knowledge on J.K. Rowling and the writings of Harry Potter.

October 4th: Visited New College and Princes Street!
October 5th: We had a busy day! All the kiddos get out of school at 12:20 on Fridays, so we had the morning to explore without the kids and the afternoon to explore with the kids. The morning consisted of The National Museum of Scotland.

In the afternoon, we took Nana and G to their first castle - Craigmillar Castle and Dr. Neil's Gardens. And a visit to the Sheep Heid Inn for drinks and Skittles (not the yummy fruity candy!)

How we watch a video or a show! (Not everyone can sit on the couch!)

October 6th: It was such a beautiful, sunny day! We met Evan Kauffman (who was in Edinburgh for a conference) for lunch in Princes Street Gardens. It was so nice being able to visit and to catch up on the adventures of the Kauffman family!
We had some fun on the Castle playground and then took a stroll through The Meadows on our way to a Harvest Festival at the church we have been attending, Mayfield Salisbury Church.

October 7th: We celebrated our good friend Miriam for her 5th Birthday!
 |
| Happy Birthday Miriam! We had so much fun celebrating you! |
It's not a proper Sunday in the UK without a Sunday roast! Today we feasted on roasted chicken, Portobello mushroom and vegetables. Of course a roast is not complete unless it has Yorkshire pudding and gravy! Yum Yum.
October 8th: Another busy day on The Royal Mile. We visited the stunning St. Giles Cathedral and the Edinburgh Castle, followed by lunch at the Southern Way Café. Seth took Nana and G to the end of the Mile to Holyrood Palace and then walked around the Salisbury Crags to get back home. Not sure Nana and G were loving the afternoon wind!

October 9th: Nana and G had a morning to themselves. I was volunteering in Asher's nursery class and Seth had to go to class. Nana and G went to breakfast and toured the Scottish National Gallery.
 |
| Some very interesting paintings! |
October 10th: We took a hike up Calton Hill and enjoyed the elevated views of the city.
We then walked over all of Waverley Train Station looking for our car rental company to find out that it was not at Waverley, but another 1/2 mile away! Such a fun/fearful experience to drive on the opposite side of the road, in the "passenger" seat! We are ready to head to the Highlands!!
We then picked up Asher from school and went to a well earned lunch at Salisbury Arms where we were able to sit outside!
Nana and G went to see the play Calendar Girls, which they said was great!
We had a very busy first week!
Stayed tuned for our Journey to the Highlands!! Here's a sneak peek pic!

Hi Brittany,
ReplyDeleteMy first visit to your blog, had misplaced your address. Looks like everyone is having a great time, full of adventure I'm sure. It brought back lots of memories of my times there long ago now. Glad to see you all are taking full advantage of your time there. The kids must really be having fun in their schools. So different from ours at home. Lord bless.-Lucy
It's so good to hear from you Lucy! Trying to keep everyone updated on our adventures! I'm a little behind right now, but hope to catch up soon! I hope you are doing well and the semester went smoothly. Much Love, Brittany
